Northern Stage Rally ChampionshipBulletin
5 – June 2007 Unfortunately
I must start this bulletin with some very sad news that you may or may
not be aware of. A few weeks ago one of the Championship’s most
committed supporters, Howard Turner, died after being involved in a road
traffic accident whilst driving on Ilkley & DMC’s Jubilee Historic
event. Howard had entered the championship nearly every year since at
least I got involved in the early 90’s, navigating fro a number of
drivers. He was twice the
overall champion navigator as well as collecting other class and
challenge awards. He will be
sadly missed by his many friends in the Championship, especially those
at Airedale & Pennine Motor Club. The
latest round of the Championship, the Dukeries Rally, could maybe have
also counted towards the inland powerboat championship …. It was a bit
soggy to say the least! Faced with landslides causing the cancellation
of one of the stage on Friday and then waking up on Saturday to find the
start /finish venue at Southwell Racecourse under several inches of
water, I think the organisers did a fantastic job to keep the event
running at all. There were a number of crews affected by the flood,
arriving at the start to find their cars stranded in the middle of Of
the 19 contenders that took part, Jamie Forrest collected the best
points with 113 for winning the (amalgamated) 1600cc class. Close
behind, second in the same class were Chris Peart & Gordon Blyth in
another Proton. Well done to everyone that survived the event! The
results move Chris & Gordon closer to the overall leaders, Alistair
Hutchinson & St John Dykes, reducing their lead to 30 points. In
third place are Brett Mitton and Ian Vickers. In the Forest Challenge,
Chris & Gordon have a healthy lead from Graham Haigh and John
Birkitt, with Keith Turner & Steve Ward moving into third place. Next Events Opposite
