Northern Stage Rally Championship

Bulletin 1 – January 2007

Welcome to the 2007 Championship, whether you are returning having competed in previous years or this is a new venture for you – you’re all very welcome!

A few points for you to take note of to begin with:

  1. I don't get to many events, as pressures of work and family life tend to restrict my outings. So I do not conduct signing on. I hope to get to a few events and will certainly be at the Opposite Lock and Tour of Mull. Hopefully a few more. I will pick up your entry and results from the event paperwork that the organisers will send to me. Speed of results depends on the speed of their service!
  2. If you change class or drivers please let me know in advance otherwise I might miss you and that makes my work harder having to calculate results twice.
  3. Many of the events in the Championship are extremely popular. I cannot guarantee entries on any of them for you. Although many events do look favourably on championship contenders please make sure you submit entries as soon as regs are available to ensure a run.
  4. The Tour of Mull – This is a new event to the Championship and has a very loyal and enthusiastic following. I realise that it’s a long way “off map” for the Association but it is run by a member club and has got to be one of the most challenging tarmacadam stage events in the country and is one of only two to run on closed public roads. The event presents contenders though with some other challenges as well as the stages – obtaining an entry can be difficult and accommodation is always booked up well in advance. If you seriously want to take part in the event and are not a regular competitor on the event then I would urge you to do the following:

·         Register on the event website www.2300club.org

·         Try finding accommodation NOW. You can contact the tourist information centres on the island – details can be found on the Internet. You can also post accommodation “wanted” adverts on the event website that is accessed by a lot of locals.

·         Ensure the organisers know you’re registered for the championship when you submit your entry.

If you want any more advice on the event please let me know.

  1. Results – I will update these as often as I can and get them on the website and out via e-mail. I can’t guarantee to have results out by post after each round though. I will also try and do further bulletins at intervals throughout the year to keep you updated with news.
  2. Please let me know what you think of the Championship and the events as the season progresses.

Now onto the first round, the Jack Frost Stages at Croft. Popular as ever, it proved a thrilling start to the Championship with Chris Wise & Tracey Taylor-West taking (I think!) their very first event win, but it was down to a tie breaker – you don’t get any closer. Well done to Chris & Tracey – a cracking start to the year. Other notable results were Garry Johnson & Phil Bond taking second in class 1 and Alistair Hutchinson / St John Dykes second in class 3 in their LPG powered Clio. I’m surprised no one else has followed their lead with this LPG stuff looking at the results they achieve. If you have any questions about how the points are worked out, give me a call.
