Northern Stage Rally Championship

Bulletin 7 – June 2006

Just a quick update between the Dukeries and Torque BAC events.

16 contenders took part in Saturday's Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally. As a round of the ever popular BTRDA series, the event offered the added challenge of some of the best crews from around Britain . With the event running many different classes there is a lot of amalgamation to do to get the Championship classes - so, for example, classes N1, A5, B8 & B9 on the event are all combined to give an upto 1400cc class for championship scoring. This creates some pretty big classes - particularly the 1400cc and over 2 litre categories. This can work out as a benefit if you do well - more in class to beat - or as a problem if you have problems as you end up beating relatively few in a large class.

Dave Craven finished best overall of the contenders, 12th overall and in the huge over 2-litre class to score 100 points. Best score though went to Darren Moon & John McNichol who collect 115 points for winning the combined 2 litre class, followed by Matthew Whattam, 104 points for 3rd in the same class.

Dave Craven leads the Forest Driver’s championship by 25 points from Nigel Barber with Darren Moon 3 points further back. John McNichol leads the navigators, 20 ahead of Christopher Roe with Jamie Edwards in third.

In the Overall Championship, Stuart Wilson maintains the Driver’s lead with Chris Platt still in second. Dave Craven moves up to third. There are only 18 points covering the top four. Matthew Whattam moves into the lead in the Navigator’s Championship by a comfortable margin from Chris Purvis and Mad Mick Robinson.

Just a note on the Grizedale Stages. When it moved dates it clashed with the Hamsterley event and so I had to reluctantly drop it from the Championship. I have been seeking a replacement event but it now seems that the Hamsterley event will itself be moving dates. If this is confirmed and does not clash with any other round I will keep the Hamsterley event and reinstate the Grizedale Stages. As soon as I have confirmation with what’s happening with the Hamsterley Stages I will let you know and confirm the dates. Sorry for the ongoing uncertainty.
