Northern Stage Rally Championship
Well,
it sounds like Stockport MC’s SMC Stages at Weeton Camp at the weekend
was more like a power boat race than a rally!
I
couldn’t make it to
Blackpool
but reports of people developing webbed feet and trench foot seem
common. It also seems that the organisers did a sterling job in ensuring
the event ran to plan with a flooded service area and numerous accidents
due to the conditions amongst the challenges they faced. Well done to
all the volunteers.
At
the end of the event there were some impressive results from contenders
– including a clean sweep of second places in every class. With fairly
even class sizes (these days anyway) it led to some very close scores.
Chris Platt / Mad Mick Robinson just scraped the best score with 110
points for their second in the 1600cc class (and 7th overall
in the bargain), narrowly ahead of Chris Wise / Tracey Taylor-West,
second overall and in the over 2-litre class, and Richard Wormald,
second in the 2-litre class and 8th overall, all picking up
109 points. Steve Crowther / David Batley took 103 points for second in
the upto 1400cc class but were in turn pipped by 1 point by Brett Mitton
/ Alan Bouch, 3rd in the 2-litre class and another crew
placed in the top ten overall. Stuart Wilson & Chris Purvis also
managed over 100 points with 4th in class. Well done to you
all.
So
now things are starting to look very interesting across the board.
Nigel
Barber leads the overall driver’s championship by just 1 point from
Garry Salmon with Stuart climbing to 3rd. Behind him we have
a great queue of drivers close behind. Steve Dargan leads the navigators
Championship by 33 points from Chris Purvis with Tracey Taylor-West just
4 points adrift with another close battle forming behind.
In
the Multi-Use Challenge it’s Chris Platt leading by Richard Wormald by
2 points with Chris Wise one point further back. For the navigators,
“Mad” Mick Robinson leads Tracey Taylor-West by 3 points with David
Batley a further 7 behind in third. Garry Salmon / Steve Dargan lead the
Tarmacadam Challenge from Stuart Wilson and Chris Purvis with lat
year’s winners Steve Crowther / David Batley snapping at their heels.
