Northern Stage Rally Championship

Bulletin 3 – March 2006

There’s been a lot of action since the last bulletin with the North West Stages and the Robin Hood Forest Stages, so let’s get up to date. The Legend Fires North West Stages was a tough event for many. Cramming 100 stage miles and 28 stages into a day and a half’s rallying. There was a good turnout of contenders with 34 taking the start amongst the 105 strong entry. With only 41 crews making it back to the finish the rate of attrition was high. Rising above the carnage were Martin Farrar (or is it Far’ahh as pronounced on the Motors TV coverage of the event!) & Andy Ward who won the 2-litre class in their MG-ZR to take the highest points tally from the event. Close behind were Matt Tarbutt (with his star navigator!) who won the 1400cc class by 8 minutes and Howard Chopping / Jonathan Turnbull who were 4th overall and in the over 2 litre class in their Impreza. Commiserations to the many that fell by the wayside.

The Alternative Sign Centre Robin Hood Forest Stages was a rather different picture with only 13 contenders taking part. The entries for the North Humberside Forest Rally look a bit better but it’s clear that the forest events are not being supported as well as the other events. I’m not sure why – is it the cost, the state of the roads, the events that I’ve included in this year’s Championship? Please let me know why you’re not entering so I can look to make any changes next year – I’m always willing to listen.  Anyway, top score went to Dave Craven & Ian Jackson in the Mitsubishi (110 points) followed by Darren Moon & John McNichol.

So with 4 events gone, it’s Martin Farrar & Andy Ward that lead overall by 20 points from Dave Craven & In Jackson with Nigel Barber just one point behind as third driver and Phill Bond third in the Navigator’s championship.

Please note that my e-mail address has changed. Please use msyates@tiscali.co.uk with immediate effect.

With the next couple of events being only a week apart I might struggle to get an update out in time. I will try at least to get updated results onto the website.

Decals have finally been printed. They have been enclosed with this bulletin for those that receive printed updates and separately for those drivers that receive the results by e-mail. Please let me know if you haven’t received a set.
