Northern Stage Rally Championship

Bulletin 15 – December 2006

It’s all over for another year….. The Grizedale Stages Rally, the 17th rally of the year brought the curtain down on the 2006 Championship…. but with only six contenders taking part. None of the front running drivers in the Forest Challenge took part so it was left to Graham Haigh to top score with 49 points. This left Dave Craven as this year’s Forest Challenge Champion with Darren Moon in second, taking the class 3 award, followed by Keith Turner (1st Class 4) and Alan Richardson (1st Class 1). Gary Beckwith picks up the award in class 2. John McNichol sealed the Forest Challenge navigators award picking up 89 points up in Cumbria . Steve Ward finished in second spot but collects the class 4 award. Other class awards go to Christopher Roe (Class 1), John Birkitt (Class 3) and Phill Bond  (Class 2).

The results are now provisional and will be declared final at noon on 31st December 2006. If anyone has any queries about the scores please let me have these in writing before this time. Should any queries be received that results in any change to any of the awards then a further provisional list will be issued to all contenders. I hope though that I have added the scores up correctly or that you have raised the queries earlier!

Thank you to everyone who has competed this year – Chris Platt and Mick Robinson were simply uncatchable in the overall Championship and are worthy champions. But there were also some close run battles in each of the Challenges. We end with 29 different award winners, from many different clubs and in many types of car – a real eclectic mix. Congratulations to all our award winners.

So…. On to the awards presentation, which will be a bit different from previous years….

2007 Championship

I know we’ve just finished the 2006 Championship but as they say, there’s no time like the present. So enclosed are a set of regs for next year – I look forward to seeing those completed entry forms landing on my doormat!

One thing to note from the previously announced calendar – The Silva Stages, the first forest event of the year, is not running due to unavailability of suitable forests. I have looked for alternatives to fit with the other dates but without success. So the Forest Championship will be 6 rounds instead of seven. Best 5 scores still to count.

Once again – Thank you to all contenders and also to all the clubs that have provided events this year. Also my thanks go to Steve Smith for maintaining the website and to Kent Cams.

All it remains for me to do is wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Successful New Year. I hope to see many of you out again nest year.

Mike
