Northern Stage Rally ChampionshipBulletin
3 – February 2005 Well what a challenge
the North West Stages was. 22 stages, 80 stage miles, 5 venues, 11 hours
non-stop Motorsport. I’m still catching my breath! I managed to bump
into a few people but apologies if I didn’t manage to say Hello –
with the intensity of the day and a number of retirements it was harder
than I predicted to get round everyone.
The event, based in Blackpool included stages on the promenade,
Pontins, Weeton, Clifton Sewerage Works and the Leyland Test Track.
There were some great results with Andy Bird / Plug Pulleyn taking an
excellent 2nd overall to pick up 116 points. Mick Davey /
Martin Pullan took the class 3 victory from Mark Thompson / Giles Dykes
and Matt Tarbutt and I won class 1, although without road penalties we
would have only beaten Steve Crowther / David Batley by 3 seconds. Steve
& David claimed third in class. I’ve got to say though that it was
an eventful day – a few spins, a wrong slot down a dead-end at Weeton,
a (far too) near encounter with Mssrs Deegan & Smith after the merge
at Weeton (not the way to treat your championship coordinator!), and a
bout of mal de Nav. At least our dramas weren’t too costly – there
were lots of crews with more serious problems. The high rate of
attrition meant that only 49 of the 110 starters made it back to Pontins.
The results mean that Andy & Plug take the lead in the
Overall and Tarmacadam tables from John Deegan & Chris Smith who
debuted their Civic Type R at Blackpool. Roger Priestnall / James Orton
are in third overall, whilst Steve Crowther & David Batley are third
in the Tarmacadam Challenge. Next Events

Oliver’s Mount this year, concentrating all the stage mileage into the

delay if you want a run. Phoenix

All drivers should now have received decals. If you haven’t
then let me know. Congratulations for the first obliteration of stickers
goes to Alan Richardson who wiped his out on the Kall Kwik (come on
Alan, it wasn’t even a Championship round!). You will , if you receive
the printed bulletin, have noticed that you only have the overall and
Tarmacadam results this time. To keep printing costs and time down I
will only be sending out the updated results of the particular challenge
that the last event(s) count for. This should help get results to you
quicker and avoid duplication of non-updated results. Good luck on the Robin Hood. Mike |
