Northern Stage Rally Championship

BULLETIN 14 – DECEMBER 2005

That's it, there is no more ... well not this year!

The Coppermines Grizedale Stages concluded the 2005 Championship with the usual end of season thrash round the glorious Lake District forests. With the overall winners already decided it was down to the Forest Challengers to be sorted. Worried over loosing his top spot in the Challenge, Dave Hemingway, fresh from his exploits on the R.A.C., put in a late entry to try and fend off Greg Wilkinson. In the end Greg's result on the event was not enough to catch Dave, but Dave made certain by another strong score to take the Forest Challenge, leaving Greg to take the Class 4 driver's award in the Challenge. Well done Dave! I'm also glad to see Greg getting something for his efforts, having started 15 of the 17 events this year and missing out on the overall title. In the navigator's challenge, despite a fraught day with Dave Craven's car not being well, Ian Jackson managed to scrape home with enough points to see off the late challenge from Jim Plevey and Jonathan Padgett, who both headed their respective classes. Congratulations Ian.

So that's it for another year - the 2005 Championship is complete. The revised format that we used this year has seemingly been popular. The lower turnouts on the forest events seem to be reflected nationwide but I have been very encouraged by the support in the other challenges. This year has seen the highest number of contenders registered for the championship for as long as I can recall.. maybe ever... and there have been some close battles throughout the year. I would like to congratulate all award winners, and especially Mark & Giles - worthy Champions! I would also like to express my thanks to all contenders for supporting the Championship – I hope that you have enjoyed this year’s Championship and that you will be back for more in 2005. Thanks also to Kent Cams for their continued support and the all the organisers of the events this year and to Steve Smith for maintaining the website.

Finally, thank you all for joining in and supporting the Championship this year. I hope that you have enjoyed yourselves and will be back for more in 2006. Merry Christmas and I hope you have a happy and safe 2006!

I hope to see you all at the Awards Ceremony.

Mike
