Northern Stage Rally Championship

BULLETIN 13 – NOVEMBER 2005

Cue the trumpet fanfare….. with one round still to go we have overall winners of the Championship. With his first venture into the forests providing enough points to make his lead secure it’s congratulations to Mark Thompson and navigator Giles Dykes. - Well done!!

This also has an effect on other award winners as Mark & Giles had provisional awards in both the Tarmacadam and Multi-Use Challenges. The beneficiaries are Mark & Giles’ long time archrivals – Alistair Hutchinson & St John Dykes.

Hamsterley provided a real challenge with the recent weather making some sections of the stages extremely challenging. Best score went to navigator Colin Stockil with 113 points. Next up were Greg Wilkinson / Jonathan Padgett and Nick Dale / Kevin Hare, both crews scoring 95 points. With the overall Championship settled it leaves just the Forest Challenge awards up for grabs in Grizedale this weekend. Three drivers (Dave Hemingway, Alan Richardson and Greg Wilkinson) can still take the Challenge award, although I think only Greg is entered. He needs a score of 79 to pip Dave – a tall order in the usually slippery Cumbrian forests. It’s even more open for the navigators with five potential winners – Christopher Roe, Jonathan Padgett, Jim Plevey, Kevin Hare & Ian Jackson. Good luck to you if you’re out there. Let the best man win.

Awards Presentation

Advanced warning – the awards presentation will be held at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre, Cleckheaton (Map Ref 104/(104/180256) on Friday 3rd February 2006. More details next time.

Next Year

Yes, it’s all starting again very shortly! Below is the calendar of events for 2006. The successful 2005 format has been retained with minimal changes to events, mainly driven by the loss of Leyland for the Proflex Stages and the usual battle to get a good spread of dates / venues. The 7 forest events remain unchanged. The Lindisfarne replaces the Cheviot as the date fits better and there is a different event at Weeton – the SMC Stages. Making a first appearance in the Championship are the Centenary Stages at Twyford and the Adrian Barker Memorial Stages at Wilbarston.

I hope that the Championship will continue to appeal and you will all be back for more in 2006 (and bringing your friends with you!).

Regs will be posted to you in December as soon as I can get everything finalised and the printing done.

Please do not wait for me though before getting entries submitted for the early rounds. Regs for the Jack Frost Stages are already out so don’t miss out. Regs should be sent to this years contenders.
