Northern Stage Rally Championship

BULLETIN 11 – SEPTEMBER 2005

The Hall Trophy at Weeton proved to be a real test and many a car failed the test! I think that contenders generally bet the odds with 11 crews from 17 making it to the finish.

Steven Crowther & David Batley continued their good run of form to win the 1400cc class but as there were only 7 starters in the class it was in fact Mick Davey & Martin Pullan who took top score away with 114 points for their second in the 2-litre class.

A retirement at Weeton could not prevent Mark Thompson & Giles Dykes retaining their lead in the overall Championships and Roger Preinstall hangs on to second in the driver’s Championship. Steven moves up to third. In the navigator’s Championship David moves into second and Fred Roberts up to third. With the remaining events there’s still realistically chances for half a dozen or so to reap the top awards.

The Hall trophy was the last Multi-Use event of the year. Stephen Oade & Tim Croft come out on top, despite the gamble to miss the event. In the end they had a comfortable 35 point lead from Gary Parker & Dave Everard Depending on who wins the overall Championship then the awards may change as the first overall crew cannot win separate challenge awards (SR 16) but as now the PROVISIONAL multi-use award winners are :

1st Multi Use Challenge : Stephen Oade & Tim Croft

1st Multi-Use Class 1 : Steven Crowther / David Batley

1st Multi-Use Class 2 : Dave Hodgson / Cameron Kelly

1st Multi-Use Class 3 : Mark Thompson & Giles Dykes

1st Multi-Use Class 4 : Gary Parker & Dave Everard

With one Tarmacadam round remaining Steven and David head Mick & Martin with Mark & Giles in third. It’s going to be a close finish though because any of these three crews can still win – in fact the theoretical maximum scores possible are equal for Steven / David and Mick / Martyn. However, Mark & Giles probably have more experience of the ranges – so let Otterburn be the decider!

Regs are now out or about to be sent for the remaining 4 rounds of this year’s Championship.
