Northern Stage Rally Championship

Bulletin 7 – June 2004

The Proflex Stages attracted 21 contenders to the tarmac tracks at the Leyland Test Track. Steve Simpson and Mark Booth were winning the event before hitting trouble, leaving David Duff to come out “top dog” with 105 points for his second place in the 1600cc class. Just 2 points behind were Alistair Hutchinson and St John Dykes, 4th in the 2-litre class in their Renault Clio, which I’m lead to believe, runs on LPG. Maybe a drop of super unleaded would have just given you the edge, guys! Jonathan Turnbull was next best scorer with 96 points, navigating to 7th overall, 4th in the over 2-litre class.

The results from the Proflex have not changed the top three overall – Richard Wormald leads from Chris Peart and Nick Dobson in the Driver’s and Dave Hammond leads Gordon Blythe and Chris Smith in the navigators – after Chris and driver John Deegan finally managed another finish after 5 consecutive retirements! Despite the obvious disappointments (and cost!) it’s great to see the commitment to enter every round so far.

In the Single Venue Challenge Mark Thompson has moved up to joint leader with Richard Wormald, 9 points ahead of third place driver Chris Platt, whilst Dave Hammond leads Chris Smith with Gavin Wright moving up to third Navigator.

In the classes, the only change is that Jonathan Turnbull moves ahead of Jane Fox in the class 4 navigators table. Things are starting to get closer though.
