Northern Road Rally Championship

BULLETIN NO. 4, JUNE 2004

The attached tables show the standings after the Memorial, but please note I have not included any marshal scores for the event, if you were out then please let me know so I can add your points on. For this reason I have not included the latest Club Championship standings, as the marshalling scores from the Memorial will change these quite a bit.

I have listed all the remaining rounds in this year’s series, partly because I have no specifics about the next two rounds (although I do know the Wilfs regs will be out very soon), but also to make sure you are all aware of the re-scheduled date for the Westmorland. This change happened quite a while ago and is definite, so please ignore anything you see with the July date on it!

As we have a free month now in July, I am going to try and arrange a repeat of the forum we had a couple of years ago. The MSA Rallies Committee are going to review the road rally technical regs and input from competitors and event organizers is both vital and welcomed. Before anyone goes jumping to conclusions there is no hidden agenda behind this, it is simply that the current regs are in the main over ten years old and need tidying up – there are no plans for anything radical, or the banning of any particular vehicle types! I will let you know as soon as I have finalized a date and venue.

Whilst on the subject of technical regs, I have had an official request from Ian Davis at the MSA to remind all ANCC contenders to ensure that their vehicles comply with the current technical regs and event organizers to ensure that these regs are enforced on their events. Maximum number of forward facing beams and advertising are the particular reasons for this reminder, please make sure you are legal!

Bye for now,

PAST EVENTS

8TH / 9TH  MAY, ROUND 4, WITCH WAY RALLY, PENDLE DMC

A full entry of 60 tackled this event on maps 103, 104 and 110, the route was all defined by map references, half of it was on cracking roads, the less said about the other half then better though. I have shared my views with the organizers so won’t bore you with them here. The event proved very tough with many crews going OTL, many retiring and in the end only 13 were classified as finishers, five of them were ANCC crews so well done to all of them. Thanks to Pendle for the undoubted hard work that went into the event, some lessons learned for both organizers and competitors for next year I am sure.

11TH / 12TH JUNE, ROUND 5, MEMORIAL RALLY, GARSTANG & PRESTON

I had hoped to make it over to this event but was unable to get there in the end. From what I hear it ran well and was enjoyed by the competitors, so well done to the G & P team. If any of you want to let me know what you thought of the event I will try to get a proper report in the next bulletin.
